In 2009, APEC Leaders launched the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Action Plan which sets an APEC-wide aspirational target to make it 25% cheaper, faster and easier to do business within APEC economies by 2015.
On August 15-16, 2014, representatives from APEC economies met at an EoDB Stocktake Workshop in Beijing, China. The purpose was to review progress towards achieving the 25% target. Workshop participants also shared best practices and lessons learned in implementing the EoDB Action Plan, discussed challenges for APEC economies to overcome, and brainstormed ideas for APEC’s post-2015 agenda for EoDB.
The Ministry of Economy invited Budidjaja & Associates (B&A) to actively participate in the Stocktake Workshop. This was in recognition of B&A’s expertise in the five priority areas of the EoDB Action Plan – namely, Starting a Business, Dealing with Construction Permits, Getting Credit, Enforcing Contracts, and Trading Across Borders.
Ms. Juni Dani, B&A Principal, who participated in the workshop brought to the Group Discussions, her 10 years of experience working in the field of business, investment and commercial law in Indonesia for national and international clients. Her participation included addressing questions on reforms to improve the EoDB in Indonesia post 2015. Reflecting on her participation, Ms. Juni said: “The knowledge I have gained of reforms and initiatives being undertaken by APEC members to improve the ease of doing business in their economies and across APEC is invaluable. It will certainly benefit the services that we, at Budidjaja & Associates, provide our clients.”
