The Indonesian Maritime Law Association (IMLA) held its public event on Wednesday, 29 October 2014, called “IMLA Tea Talk: Ship Arrests in Indonesia and Singapore” at the Puri Denpasar Hotel Jakarta.
Juni Dani, Principal at Budidjaja & Associates, was one of the speakers who spoke at the event. Her topic was “Ship Arrest in Indonesia: A Public Law Perspective”. The other speakers were Sahat A.M. Siahaan (Partner at ABNR, Counsellors at Law), Budi Santoso (Chair of the District Court of Serang), Heru Prasetyo (Government Official at the Department of Sea and Communication), Hanna Azkiya (Associate to Leong Kah Wah, Vice President of Maritime Law Association of Singapore and Partner at Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP), Lawrence Teh (Administrator and Regional Office Chairman for Asia of Comité Maritime International and Partner at Rodyk & Davidson LLP).
Of particular interest was the attendance by Lawrence Teh who spoke in his capacity as the Administrator & Regional Office Chair for the Comité Maritime International, the governing body for national maritime associations across the world. The speakers discussed a range of topics related to ship’s arrests.
The event was attended by various backgrounds of participants, including legal practitioners and representatives from shipowners, insurers, banks, charterers, and adjusters/surveyors.
IMLA was overwhelmed with the enthusiastic response to the Tea Talk, as evidenced by the tickets to the event selling out and the discussions continuing well past the scheduled 4pm finish. The success of the event augurs well for future events and the growth of IMLA more generally.
