Regarding the recent dispute between WarKopi and Warkop DKI, on 23 September 2021 WarKopi has issued an apology and deleted all their content on their YouTube channel that parodies the legendary comic trio.
The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (“DGIP”) has stated that, because their content was created without the express consent of the last living member of the trio, it is deemed as a violation of copyright. However, the DGIP has requested both parties to resolve this matter peacefully.
In light of this, it is important to ask whether they were actually violating copyrights? Today’s #infographic goes over copyright infringement, parodies and how they are regulated under Indonesian law as well as the sanctions perpetrators might be subject to, presenting you with all the information you need to decide.
