New Regulation on Carbon Trading Enacted by Financial Services Authority

The Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan – “OJK”) recently enacted OJK Regulation No. 14 of 2023 on Carbon Trading through Carbon Exchange (“POJK No. 14/2023”).

In the context of Carbon Trading, the object being traded are Carbon Units, which is proof of ownership over carbon in the form of certificates or technical endorsements representing 1 (one) metric ton of carbon dioxide. These Carbon Units will are considered tradable stocks.
